This system is a little different than any other. This system may be
used almost anywhere a septic system is required. When you own
an aerobic system, you are basically the owner of a sewage plant.
This means that your aerobic system performs the same duties that any
urban wastewater treatment plant does. An aerobic system actually is
very similar to any regular septic system because they both treat
the wastewater naturally.
How It Works
-
Wastewater and effluent enter a pre-treatment tank where toilet paper, oils,
grease, etc. and other solids and materials are captured. This helps to reduce
the amount of solids entering the aerobic chamber.
-
The wastewater enters the aerobic chamber where air is compressed
and forced into the wastewater to increase the growth of
beneficial bacteria that consume the solids. Please keep in mind
that not all solids are destroyed by the bacteria, so the mixture
then enters a setting chamber where they can settle.
-
The treated water moves into a pumping chamber where it receives
a final treatment of unstabilized chlorine. Please note: this
isn't the same type of chlorine that you shock your pool with,
but rather a highly concentrated tablet form that is only
designed for the treatment of wastewater.
-
A float valve within the pump chamber will signal the pump to
discharge the water to the absorption field.
-
The treated water is then piped to the field and dispersed via
pop-up lawn sprinklers.
This process is a perfect plus to homeowners who don't want to clear
trees to create an absorption field. It may also be good on lots that
are very close to a body of water that might otherwise be subject to
potential pollution.
Most of the time, an aerobic system will cost little more than any
other normal septic system to install and maintain. These systems
are designed with control boxes and alarms to notify you if it is
running properly or a malfunction has occurred.
